Table Care

Caring for your Heirloom Table

Table Care:

Our Spar Urethane Finish:

We use a spar urethane finish that has high protection against moisture, so you can leave a glass of water on the table for the day without worrying about rings or white clouding.  Our finish also has UV protectors in it, so sunlight will not impact your table finish.

Our finish is one of the most durable table finishes available, it is more durable than lacquer (lacquer can get water marks) and oil (oil needs to be reapplied over time).

Scratching the Table:

There are several items you will want to be careful putting on the top and sliding across that can scratch the finish (similar to how you could scratch a wood floor):

  • Metal Items- if sliding across with a sharp edge
  • Unglazed pottery underside- vases and bowls

Cleaning Your Table:

  • The best way to clean the table is just liquid dish soap (what you would use for washing dishes) and some water on a soft sponge or towel.
  • No scouring pads
  • No furniture polish
  • No waxes
  • No vinegar

Items on your table:

I like to use the rule of thumb that if you can consume the items, then they are safe for being on your table:

  • Safe Items that you can also consume:
    • Water
    • Olive Oil
    • Red Wine
    • Ketchup
    • Mustard…

  • Items Not Safe to put on your table- these are items you would not consume (harsh chemicals)
    • Battery Acid
    • Nail Polish and Remover
    • Drano…
    • I have also seen an issue with colored post-it notes that get wet and the colored dye can stain

  • Plants on Your Table:
    • We recommend that you be very careful with any plants staying on your table.  We have seen a case where we believe the watering from the plant leaked through onto the fabric protector under the plant.  Although regular water itself won’t impact your finish, there could have been chemicals in the plant soil (fertilizer…) or by wetting the fabric underneath (potential chemical treatments on the fabric) that did impact the finish.
